About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Senior Java Backend Developer to join a global engineering team supporting an automotive production environment.
The role requires strong hands-on experience in Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and distributed systems, with the ability to troubleshoot complex production issues across application logs, databases, and asynchronous message flows.
A key aspect of this role is the effective use of AI-assisted and agentic software engineering workflows. The developer should be comfortable using modern AI development tools while independently reviewing, validating, and taking responsibility for AI-generated code before it is introduced into the application.
The ideal candidate is a senior, self-driven engineer who can operate with minimal coordination and contribute effectively within an international and production-focused engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain production-grade backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
- Develop and enhance services within a microservices-based architecture.
- Work with relational databases and develop efficient, reliable SQL-based solutions.
- Design and troubleshoot integrations across distributed and production-critical systems.
- Develop and maintain asynchronous, event-driven processing and messaging-based integrations.
- Understand and handle messaging scenarios including:
- At-least-once delivery
- Idempotency
- Message ordering
- Duplicate processing
- Poison messages
- Backpressure
- Diagnose complex production issues by correlating application logs, database states, and message flows across distributed components.
- Use AI-assisted and agentic development tools such as Copilot CLI, Claude, and GitHub Copilot in IntelliJ, including MCP-, agent-, and skills-based workflows.
- Independently review and validate AI-generated code for:
- Functional correctness
- Maintainability
- Security
- Architectural compliance
- Act as a senior technical gatekeeper, ensuring AI-generated or AI-assisted implementations meet established engineering standards before integration.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions, testing, and continuous improvement activities.
- Collaborate effectively with international engineering teams and stakeholders while working with a high degree of autonomy.

Required Skills
Mandatory Skills
- Strong hands-on development experience with Java and Spring Boot across multiple projects.
- Experience working with production-critical and/or integration-heavy systems.
- Solid knowledge of SQL and relational databases.
- Demonstrated experience designing and developing applications within microservice architecture landscapes.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and asynchronous/event-driven processing.
- Practical knowledge of messaging concepts, including at-least-once delivery, idempotent consumers, message ordering, duplicate handling, poison messages, and backpressure.
- Strong production debugging and root-cause analysis skills, including investigation across logs, database state, and message flows.
- Hands-on experience using AI-assisted/agentic development workflows such as Copilot CLI, Claude, GitHub Copilot in IntelliJ, MCP, agents, or skills.
- Ability to critically review, validate, and improve AI-generated code rather than relying on generated output without technical verification.
- Ability to work independently with minimal coordination and take end-to-end ownership of assigned technical topics.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Hexagonal Architecture.

Experience & Education

- Experience across multiple client or enterprise projects is preferred.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related discipline.
